The Picture Dilemma
All my damned plans are falling through, damn it.
Anyway.
I was thinking about putting up pictures of the Bangkok trip. Despite having a mild case of ****itis throughout the trip (like hearing my handphone ring every day even though I wasn't actually carrying it), I actually looked happy in the photos. Especially when I'm clutching various contraband wildlife to my chest with the "mine!" face.
I wonder if that's such a good idea though. On one hand I can look at the pictures and get away from the confines of this space for a while, away from the sterility of the chilled air and the insistent whirring/tapping/humming/ringing noises of faxes, keyboards, computers, telephones, and go to where the air is heavily scented with flowers and fruit and food and smog.
But on the other hand, anonymity gives one the ability to write more honestly, I think. Re-minisce and April certainly seem to think so (although Adrock appears to feel completely uninhibited by his lack of anonymity, merrily posting pictures of his nekkid ass, more power to him. No, I'm not giving you a direct link to his butt. Go find it yourself.)
Or maybe I'm just still traumatized by the Young Steven incident, and the fact that the last time I posted my Maldives photos there were some weird-ass Google searches that led to this site. (I suspect they got lifted and put on some strange Asian fetish bikini site) Plus, it's too damn easy to fuck around with someone's pictures (and yeah, I know what I'm talking about).
An opinion, anyone?

Hah! I haven't forgotten that you had one where you were NAKED! (although very decent and certainly anonymous):)

Slink - As far as I can tell you've been completely anonymous up to now, right? I would advise you to remain so. You will keep the freedom to say anything you feel like saying, which is very valuable. That's the fatherly advice.
On the other hand, most of your readers want to see your face. Are you going to disappoint us forever?- » July 28, 2005 2:52 PM

I vote for anonymity. (But then, you knew I would, anyway)

Anonymity is really, really, really good.
One suggestion though, for those of us who know you and love you in real life - do a flickr set, let us write in for the link.
God knows I don't see enough of you in real life.- » July 28, 2005 5:27 PM

I dont agree with anonymity.
Coz knowing how you look justifies a hell lot more bout what one writes or reads...
Imagine seeing my ass...and not able to put a correlation between my face and the ass...if i'd not shown my face...many would think the ass isnt mine...
And damnit i wana show how skinny my ass is...- » July 28, 2005 11:03 PM

Larry: Nice to see you still around here, the fatherly advice is definitely appreciated. A lack of anonymity hasn't stopped you from writing wonderful entries from the heart, though.
Adrock: unfortunately not of us are as brave or as uncompromising. And feel the need to conenct our asses to our faces. (I think I'll hide mine for the time being, thanks)- » July 31, 2005 5:25 PM
