Farewell or, perhaps, see you later.

Here's how it works:

I think a blog is, for most people, personal. Save for the ones whose blogs seem predominantly to be a tool to garner fame and attention, or as their own little soapbox, it seems like a majority of bloggers use it for themselves. To remember, to reflect, to vent, to regret, sometimes just to share, in the hopes of reaching out and touching someone, or perhaps to change the world, just a little bit. Why post in the Internet then, if the content is personal? Because people need something permanent. Because sometimes, people want their words flung into the darkness of cyberspace and hopefully, some stranger gathers them up and listens. And also, because if you're me, I want to be able to actually read what I bloody well wrote years from now, a distinct impossibility given my idiosyncratic handwriting and the corruptibility of dead tree diaries.

Something Adrock said recently has struck a chord in me. He wrote that in writing a blog, it should be, first and foremost, honest. And that's something, I think, that, apart from the beginning, has not happened in a while, occuring only sporadically in fits and starts. Self-censorship is, perhaps, the disease that will kill this blog, as too many people who know me read this. (Little things bug little minds, making big problems for the Slinky.)
Naturally, this curtails your ability to write as you feel, to write, as Adrock says, from the heart. So the writing became more stilted, and the words a little more forced. And writing loses some of its pleasure. We write because we enjoy it. It provides some form of release, some form of venting, some form of trying to sort out the thoughts in your head. You can't do that without the freedom to write as you feel.

But despite the reining in of things which I could not or would not say, and the fact that I picked the topics I spoke about with more care, it seems that you can't please everybody.

But I want to please me. So.

I won't delete this blog. And I will update it, occaisionally.

Perhaps.

But the main bulk of my words, well, perhaps they'll go elsewhere now.

If I set up somewhere else, and you want in on it, drop me a line. I'll consider it. No promises.

See you around.
