The Dictionary of the Injured : by Slinky
Horror: That feeling just after my ankle twisted and just before I landed on my knees on the rain-slicked pavement, with just enough time to think "Oh bloody fuck, not aga-!"
Stupid: The feelng when I brought trackpants to change into after I bathed, then realized I couldn't stand on my left foot to put my right foot in, which led to me trying to brace my butt against the bathroom cabinet with sharp edges thus ending up with me in an undignified mess on the floor. Trackpants still not on.
Pathetic: The feeling when I was curled up in a little ball of agony, tears of pain streaming down my face, trying to decide if not making it to the bathroom was really worse than the pain involved in hopping there on one foot like a froggy drunkard one-legged sailor and wishing like hell someone could just fucking carry me there. (I hopped, just so we're clear.)
Annoyance: Not being able to sleep at 3 a.m. because of - you guessed it - the ankle.
Frustration: Missing out on a job interview because I couldn't drive. Goddamn manual cars and their stupid stupid clutches. Bah.
Jubilation: Realizing that my fully adjustable compression ankle brace took away almost all the pain, hooray for modern medicine! Still staggering around the house. But a vast improvement - movement without yowling, the things we take for granted.
